Teej Fair Brings Together Art, Culture and Talent
Cultural programmes at Bikaner House highlight Rajasthan’s living heritage; Padma Shri artists and distinguished guests add stature to the event
New Delhi, 22 August. The ongoing ten-day Teej Fair at Bikaner House on Saturday presented a vibrant display of Rajasthan’s folk culture, art and traditions. A cultural programme held as part of the fair introduced audiences to the state’s living heritage through theatre, music and traditional performances.
Principal Resident Commissioner Rohit Kumar said the cultural evening featured theatre artists associated with Living Room Theatre, whose presence added dignity to the occasion. At the prize-distribution ceremony, Pratham Sharma, advocate and Standing Counsel for the Income Tax Department, and television and film artist Kavita Seth presented awards to the winners. Two students of Lady Shri Ram College, Mansi and Kafi, also participated in the ceremony and encouraged the recipients.
Padma Shri Artists Grace the Stage
Kumar noted that the programme gained special distinction from the presence of Padma Shri Gafuruddin Mewati Jogi and Padma Shri Anwar Khan, Vice-Chairman of the Sangeet Natak Akademi. Those present appreciated their long-standing contribution to folk art and cultural traditions. Thirty-five students from Lady Shri Ram College took part enthusiastically and expressed appreciation for the event.
Distinguished Guests Visit the Fair
The Principal Resident Commissioner listed several notable visitors who attended the fair on Saturday. They included Sanjay Kumar Mishra, member of the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council, and his wife; Anil Rajput, Chairman of ITC and Director of Urban Transport, and his wife; Mahendra Kumar, IAS, Director at NITI Aayog, and his wife; Dr Amarjot, Additional Commissioner of Income Tax (IRS); Dr Dolly Jamwal (IRS); and families of several senior IAS officers of the Rajasthan cadre.
